We are big fans of Hervey Bay especially during Whale season, its just magical. Unfortunately we dont offer a pick up directly from Hervey Bay but you can catch a Greyhound bus from Hervey to Rainbow in time to catch our tour.

When planning their Fraser Island 4WD holiday and Fraser Island Tours, many visitors wonder which of pickup location is best for them. It really depends on your personal travel itinerary, available modes of transport and what you want to see and do before and after the Fraser Island tour.

Keep in mind that our Drop Bear Highway service allows you to finish your trip in a different destination than the one you started out in, so you could go to Fraser Island from Rainbow Beach and return to Noosa – or vice versa.

If you are coming from the North and headed South, Hervey Bay is your nearest gateway to Fraser Island. You could start your Fraser Island 4WD trip from there but if you want to do a Drop Bear tour you’ll need to make your way to either Noosa or Rainbow Beach.

  • If you are coming from the South and headed North, it’s a good idea to depart for Fraser Island from Noosa and return to Rainbow Beach, you can easily make your way to Hervey Bay from there.
  • Both Noosa and Hervey Bay are easily accessible by plane, car and bus. However, if you are travelling by train, Hervey Bay is a bit easier to get to, as Queensland Rail offer free bus transfers from Maryborough station.
  • Hervey Bay is a large town, but fairly quiet. If you are keen to sample the local nightlife, you will probably end up having a quiet pint at the local pub. However, as our tours depart fairly early, you will most likely be glad to get a good night’s sleep – and after 2 nights non-stop adventure and camping on Fraser Island you will definitely be looking forward to a bed again.
  • If you are visiting Fraser Island during Whale Watching season, from the end of July through October, there is a good chance you will spot a whale in the bay.
