Australia is a big place and the epic distances involved in travelling the country, along with budget constraints, often means having to pick and choose carefully between an endless list of paradise islands, vibrant cities and more. There are more places you must see in Australia than you could count, but these three places should be high up on your list.Â
Here Are Three Must See places in Australia
The Whitsunday Islands, gateway to the Great Barrier Reef
The Great Barrier Reef is a natural wonder which simply cannot be missed. And what better place to experience this underwater wonderland than from the paradise islands of the Whitsundays. Located in northern Queensland, this stunning collection of 74 lush, mostly deserted islands have some of the whitest sand in the world (it’s official), clear turquoise waters and are an absolute must see in Australia themselves. The best part? They sit atop the Great Barrier Reef. Spanning more than 2,300km, the reef is not only a top must see in Australia but also the world. The largest barrier reef on the planet is made up of over 2,900 individual reefs, and home to numerous species of shark, whales, shoals of tropical fish and colourful corals. That’s why the Whitsunday Islands are a must see in Australia.
Fraser Island, an island like no other
Fraser Island (known by the island’s traditional owners the Butchulla people as K’gari, meaning paradise) is a unique sand island, the largest in the world, and famously home to the purest strain of dingo in Australia. Witnessing these iconic dogs in their natural environment is without doubt something that every traveller must see in Australia. Fraser Island is also home to rainforests, other wildlife such as possums and flying foxes, pristine beaches and freshwater lakes with water so clear you can see straight to the bottom. Lake McKenzie is one such lake, filled with pure rain water and a swim through its crystal clear depths surrounded by the beauty of Fraser Island is a once in a lifetime experience. Noosa, a tropical town gateway to the best of the east coast
Beautiful little Noosa encapsulates the easy tropical charm of Queensland and is the gateway to adventures both on land and in the water. With an enviable position along Southern Queensland’s Sunshine Coast, Noosa is a gorgeous town with cute cafes, quaint boutiques and a beautiful beach with epic surf. It’s also the perfect base from which to explore this part of the coast. The Noosa everglades are one of only two everglade systems in the world – the other being in Florida, USA, and make for a unique kayaking adventure. The serene waterways lie with the Noosa Biosphere Reserve and are home to more than 44% of Australia’s birdlife, 1,300 species of plants and a ton of other water and land based wildlife. For something to get the adrenaline pumping why not climb and abseil the nearby cliffs at sunset for an unforgettable view of the ocean from the rock face.
There is so much more to see and explore in Australia, but if your time is limited these three places are a definite must see in Australia.
